A 23yr old Football player treated successfully for Still’s Disease, giving back his career

Mr. Jade, a 23yr old male from Tanzania came to MIOT on 28th January, 2018 with complaints of persistent fever, severe muscle and joint ache and weight loss over the past 8 months. He had his future set as a football player and had recently started playing for a very famous club in his country.
His problems started as muscle and joint pain in April, 2017. Being a part of an aggressive sport, he ignored it thinking it was because of a rough game. But later in a few weeks he started developing fever and also started experiencing sudden weight loss. A little worried, he visited a doctor nearby who just prescribed him medicines for fever and body pain.
Unsolvable condition:
The medicines were no good. He continued having fever, body pains and weight loss. His health started affecting his game. He tried many doctors, but no one could find a solution to his problem. As months passed, his condition was worsening to an extent that he was not able to walk without support. He was not only becoming physically weak but also psychologically weak because his career was at stake.
Diagnosis at MIOT:
A friend of his had told him about MIOT. So, immediately in a week’s time Mr. Jade and his father came to MIOT to find a solution to his son’s illness. As he came in a very unstable condition, he was immediately admitted. On consultation with the Rheumatologist, he was prescribed for Immunological investigations. With the results, he was diagnosed to have Adult Onset of Still’s Disease.
ADULT-ONSET STILL’S DISEASE (AOSD) is a form of Still’s disease, a rare systemic auto-inflammatory disease characterized by the classic triad of persistent high spiking fevers, joint pain, and a distinctive salmon-coloured bumpy rash.
He was prescribed Immunosuppressant regimen. As he came in an almost bedridden condition with in-captivating muscle and joint pain he hand to been on a long term medication therapy. But within a week, his fever has disappeared, the muscle and joint pain had reduced to an extent that he was able to move around on his own.
Recovery:
He was on observation for 2 weeks. His recovery was gradual. By the time he was ready to leave India, he was all set for his career in football back home. Now, Mr. Jade keeps sending videos of him with his foot on the ground to the Doctor that him for giving back his career.
